Painting season in Anchorage
How the Anchorage year divides into a short exterior window and a long interior season.
A subarctic year: brief warm season, long cold one
Anchorage has a subarctic climate. Most exterior paints need surface and air temperatures of about 50°F or more, with some products rated lower, and that limits outdoor work to a short summer window, typically June through August.
Summer days are very long, which helps crews fit in more hours, but cool nights and morning dew still matter. Painters often wait until surfaces are dry and warm before starting each day.
From fall through spring, interior and cabinet painting is the main work. Because the exterior calendar is so short, many owners line up summer estimates in March, April or May.

Three Anchorage priorities
Book early
Ask for summer estimates in spring, before crews fill their calendars.
Temperature on the label
Ask which products the painter will use and the lowest temperature each is rated for.
Registration
Ask for the company’s Alaska contractor registration and proof of insurance.
